Henz
Engineering Inc.
Position:
IT Manager
This
is a difficult one to summarize, when I began employment in 2004
Henz Engineering Inc. had a peer to peer workgroup on a Linksys
switch connected to a DSL modem. The workstations consisted of
ageing Dell’s of various generations; running windows 2000
and XP. They had a File Server build out of workstation parts,
with an 80gb mirror raid 1. Fridays at Noon it was common practice
for everyone to stop working so that the manual backup could be
performed to an external USB drive of 80gb. There was an Inkjet
printer at every desk and they were using pop3 email, in conjunction
with office 2000.
Since that
time, I have painstakingly rebuilt there network from the ground
up.
As of today I am proud to say that the Henz Engineering Inc. IT
systems are a shining example of how office Data systems should
be setup.
- I had
the data lines upgraded to a full T1 with 7 lines and long distance
included in an affordable package that I negotiated from Time
Warner Telecom. I then Purchased rack mount cobaltRAQ web servers
to host our own website and email.
- I established
accounts and relations with global computer and other IT supply
companies to get our equipment from more affordably.
- I personally
built 20 new workstations for the office, designed to meet the
demands of the cutting edge software and rigorous communication
needs of the environment, while keeping TCO to a minimum.
- I upgraded
from the Linksys switch to rack mount 3com managed switches,
for our network and DMZ.
- I used
some of the decommissioned workstations to build routers using
the IPCOP software. This provided top of the line service and
features at zero additional cost.
- I decommissioned
all but 3 of the inkjet printers (which were networkable) for
the President and 2 Vice Presidents, and switched the office
to a Konica Minolta Bizhub c450. This actually reduced the total
cost of printing each month by half. As well as provide a new
fax/network scanner/fast laser printer.
- I built
a new File/Domain Controller/Exchange 2007 server with a 1.8tb
capacity Raid5, 4gb of ram, dual core 3.0ghz processor and a
supermicro motherboard. This was placed into a 3u rack mount
case.
- When Henz
Engineering Inc. relocated, I was charged with determining and
purchasing our furniture needs, supervising the renovations
of the new location (which were 2 months behind at the time
I was assigned to the project. I was able to meet our move in
date in 3 weeks) I Ran all of the voice and data cat5, supervising
the installation of the T1, coordinating vendor relocation of
the phone system. Moving and reconnecting equipment. We moved
the office on a Friday I was able to get the office back online
by that Monday.
- I designed
a server room for our raq equipment. It is light with 5w LED
lights. i put togeather the TTB, and organized everything for
maximum visual appeal.

- I installed
wall mounted LCD TV’s in the conference room and break
room areas. The conference room panel is connected to a computer
for presentation and plan review. All installs have the wires
run through the wall
- Redesigned
www.henz.com
- Built Secondary
Domain Controller/Exchange 2007 server, instituted DFS.
