Shojaie
Architecture
Position:
IT Consultant
Shojaie
Architecture contracted me to assess what needed to be upgraded
on there network.
Since
Shojaie Architecture is a small company with only 3 employees,
there was a limited budget. It was my challange to keep the TCO
within specific guidlines. To that end,
- I
built a windows 2000 server with a Intel P4 3.0ghz
-
1tb SATA mirror raid
- 2gb
of ram
- SATA
200gb system drive
- 1.5tb
external USB 2.0 hard drive for automated backups.
Shojaie saved $150 annually by following my sugestion taht they
install Trend Micro SMB for there antivirus solution.
By turning
there old server into a workstation, we were able to replace one
of there ageing dell towers without any additional cost.
With a $40
dollar investment in a wire rack shelf we were able to store all
of there back office computer equipment neatly and conviently.
By upgrading
there switch from an 8 port to a 16 port netgear and performed
wire management which created a more atractive workspace.
Setup KVM to which the keyboard, trackball, and monitor from the
server are connected. Since they use AOL as there preferred internet
and e-mail solution, there was a security issue. In order to protect
the network, I connected the KVM to the old Dell workstation to
review suspicious emails prior to opening them inside the network.
As a result a small office its set up in a very neat and clean
fashion that is scalable if the company decides to grow.
